Almost 20 years ago, I started using Perl at the Stony Brook Algorithms lab (now known as the Data Science lab), in NLP and computational finance applications as a CS grad student.
I worked on large scale Perl systems frequently after that, mostly in Natural Language / Linguistic Processing, while at the NY-based Eatoni Ergonomics, a company that specialized in predictive text entry solutions.
I am currently working in Manchester, as a Principal Developer at SpareRoom, a popular (especially in the UK) roommate website/app with a primarily Perl backend.
In my spare time I usually develop software for my astronomy/astrophotography hobby (https://astro.ecuadors.net), mostly for iOS, but that is another story.
